Two advisors. One shared belief.
Friend Williams and Jonathan Burklund met while working at a large financial firm. Both were good at their jobs—but both felt something was missing. The focus was always on products, not people. On quotas, not conversations.
They kept asking the same question: “What if we built something different? A firm where we could actually sit with clients, understand their lives, and give advice that mattered?”
So, they stopped asking and started building. Riverdog Wealth was born.
Why "Riverdog"?
The name comes from a story Jonathan’s grandfather used to tell. Growing up along the river, there was always that one dog in the neighborhood who’d follow the kids down to the water, swim out farther than anyone expected, and somehow always find his way back to shore.
That dog wasn’t the fastest or the flashiest—but he was persistent, loyal, and knew the currents better than anyone.
We wanted a name that reminded us what this business is really about: showing up, staying the course, and helping people navigate the currents of retirement.
It's a little unconventional for a wealth management firm. That's kind of the point.
What we believe.
Over the years, we've built our practice around principles that guide every conversation, every plan, and every relationship.
People first.
We get to know you before we look at your numbers. Your goals, your concerns, your family—that's where planning starts.
Honest advice.
We'll tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. No sugarcoating, no hidden agendas—just straight talk.
Long-term thinking.
We're not chasing quick wins. We build plans designed to last through market cycles, life changes, and everything in between.
Where we are today.
What started as two advisors in a small Nashville office has grown into a team serving families across Tennessee. We have offices in Nashville, Mt. Juliet, Murfreesboro, Hendersonville, Knoxville, and Maryville—but the mission hasn’t changed.
We still take the time to listen. We still explain things in plain English. And we still believe that good planning starts with good people.
